Experimental Pizza Making Workshop teaches young people a new way to make their leftovers tasty again

From 8 February to 14 February, the UK’s biggest environmental event takes place – Go Green Week. During this week, many activities are organized to raise awareness about environmental concerns among young people.

One of the main green activities of Go Green Week is the Experimental Pizza Making Workshop, run by Jennifer Fraser and Eilidh Sinclair in Glasgow Caledonian University on 9 February.

They have been promoting this green activity for over half a year now, in an attempt to reduce food waste.

The aim is simple: instead of throwing away food that they don’t need, people can bring any leftovers they have and the organizers will provide the rest of the ingredients to make a pizza, such as flour.

Jennifer Fraser said: “We work a lot about food waste and this idea came up as a kind of creative and experimental way for people to talk about food waste.

While the pizzas are being made, the organizers ask questions about food waste in order to change the participants’ perceptions about leftovers and to help them preserve food at its best. Once the participants have put their leftover toppings on their own pizza, they can take it home and enjoy it.

This creative and interactive activity is not only a way for people to reduce their food waste but also a way to meet people and have fun while making their own pizza.

Other green activities young people can get involved in include learning how to maintain gardens, learning how to clear ponds and prune trees as well as creating natural bird feeders.
